Santa Fe Israel Advocacy Workshop – Monday, February 24, 2020

On Monday, February 24, advocacy experts from CAMERA (Media), AIPAC (Lobbying), conversation (AJC), and BDS (CUFI) will be in Santa Fe to help us improve our skills and feel more comfortable, confident, and courageous writing letters to the editor, communicating with our elected officials, and conversing with our friends and acquaintances.

Space is limited.  Pre-register at:  www.jewishnewmexico.org/events
Why This Workshop?  Why Now?
There has been a lot of anti-Israel activity in Santa Fe in the last 2 months:

  • the murals/sign on Old Pecos Trail with attendant letters to the editor supporting anti-Semitic blood libels
  • speaker Noura Erakat sponsored by the Lannan Foundation
  • two anti-Israel articles about Gaza and the West Bank in the New Mexican
  • newly elected State legislators taking office
  • new congressional district 3 political candidates who need to be educated about Israel
  • the Peace Plan coming out, and its supporters and detractors making inaccurate claims and counter-claims
  • the “artist” Remy ranting in the SF Reporter

We often write asking you to Take Action.  Some do.  Most don’t.

When we ask, “why not?” we found that some SFMEW members do not feel comfortable writing a letter-to-the-editor, op-ed piece, or communicating with their elected officials.  Sometimes they feel it just takes too much time and effort, or they are uncertain of their skills.  Or they don’t want to get involved.

Comfortable or not, this workshop is for you.  It will be very practical, with hands-on exercises and tips so you can “Take Action” quickly and efficiently.  You’ll also get a list of resources and facts that can be at your fingertips.  And you’ll hear how SFMEW, the Jewish Federation of New Mexico, and other organizations are here to support you – how we “have your back.”

If the Monday, Feb. 24 workshop in Santa Fe is inconvenient, take advantage of the exact same workshop in Albuquerque on the Sunday just before, Feb 23.  And please encourage your pro-Israel friends in ABQ to take the workshop there.
SFMEW is a sponsor and organizer of this event, along with our benefactor, the Jewish Federation of New Mexico.  Co-sponsors include the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA), Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the American Jewish Committee (AJC), and Yad b’Yad.
Please note that this workshop is an opportunity to learn skills, history, and facts.  Its purpose is not to debate the pros and cons of specific Israeli or US policies or actions.
