Israel@75:  Clarifying International Law in the Israeli-Palestinian Dispute

with international legal scholar Professor Eugene Kontorovich

Eugene Kontorovich is Professor of Law and Director of the Center for the Middle East and International Law at George Mason University Scalia Law School, and the head of the international law department at the Kohelet Policy Forum, a Jerusalem think tank.

He has testified numerous times in Congress, and is a regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal, Slate, the New York Times, and various other news outlets (CNN, NPR, ABC, NBC to name a few).

When?   Sunday, May 21, 11:00 am Mountain Time via Zoom and free to the public.  Advance registration is required – to register click here.*

Israel at 75 years is strong politically and militarily.  At the same time, Israel’s detractors, many of whom want to eliminate the Jewish state, are persistently making unsubstantiated and errant claims that Israel acts in violation of international law.

We will discuss with Professor Kontorovich, what does international law actually say about…

  1. … territory/border issues:  Israeli settlements in the West Bank, the Golan Heights, and Jerusalem
  2. … prosecution in military courts of West Bank teens who are violent (e.g., stone-throwing and other acts) against Jewish Israelis or IDF forces
  3. … eminent domain taking of property for military purposes (e.g., Masafer Yatta)
  4. other false claims on key issues, like terms thrown about but unsubstantiated:  ethnic cleansing, genocide, apartheid, etc.

If there is time, we will also get an update on the current government’s attempts at judiciary reform – Prof. Kontorovich and the Kohelet Policy Forum have been in the midst of the judiciary debate.
