March in Washington, DC 11-14-23

If you watched the Washington, DC rally “March for Israel,” you heard the leaders of the House and Senate, both Republican and Democrat, state they stand with Israel.  One or two of them stated there cannot be a ceasefire until Hamas is destroyed.  We need to let our New Mexico members of Congress know they need to have the same steadfastness.

WE CANNOT REST BY THINKING WE HAVE DONE OUR PRO-ISRAEL OBLIGATIONS BECAUSE WE HAVE WRITTEN ONE LETTER TO THE EDITOR, OR MADE ONE ROUND OF PHONE CALLS TO OUR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS.  OUR VOICES NEED TO BE HEARD REPEATEDLY.

Hamas and Iran have very effective propaganda machines, including embedded in the US through college campuses and anti-Israel groups in Santa Fe like Jewish Voice for Peace, Santa Feans for Justice in Palestine, and Veterans for Peace.  We’ve written about them and their toxic disinformation campaigns in the past – we won’t repeat those arguments (you can use the “search” function on the right side of the webpage to find these arguments).

What YOU can do right now

Call and email our Members of Congress (MoCs) and their legislative aides telling them that this is not the time for a ceasefire.  Let House members Teresa Leger-Fernandez, Melanie Stansbury, and Gabe Vasquez, and Senators Ben Ray Lujan and Martin Heinrich hear from you.  A quick phone call or email is counted toward helping Israel.  Their contact information is here.  Or cut and paste:  https://www.sfmew.org/elected-officials-contact/

Talking points to our Members of Congress (thanks to AIPAC for much of this information):

  1. Israel has exposed a terror fortress built by Hamas beneath a school, a childrens hospital, and Al-Quds University, and the Abu Bakr mosque — demonstrating the extent of Hamas’ use of human shields.
    1. Hamas weapons depots and headquarters have been shown to be under Shifa Hospital.
    2. Today Israeli forces entered the basement of the Rantisi Hospital and found shocking evidence that hostages had been held captive there, including chairs and ropes attached.  Also found were RPGs, suicide vests and motorbikes that were used in the Oct. 7 attack.

Hamas weapons in the basement of the Rantisi Hospital
    3. Troops uncovered a section of the Abu Bakr mosque which housed explosive devices and flammable materials, and seized dozens of weapons, military equipment, and operational plans belonging to Hamas.
    4. Troops also located a cache of weapons in the childrens room of the home of a senior Islamic Jihad terrorist.

2. The United States must ensure Israel has the time, resources and support to complete its mission and defeat Hamas.

  • All of the hostages must be released and the Hamas terrorists surrender before a ceasefire can be seriously considered.

3. Israel is continuing to go above and beyond to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, despite continued Hamas efforts to divert the aid.

Yesterday (Nov. 13), 143 trucks of humanitarian aid entered Gaza, carrying:

      • 1,620 tons of food
      • 137 tons of medical equipment
      • 444 tons of water
      • 220 tons of equipment for shelters
      • 351 tons of other supplies

The IDF unit responsible for the humanitarian situation in Gaza said that “there is no limit to the amount of food, water and medical equipment that can enter Gaza. We invite the international community to coordinate, and we will facilitate.”

The media keep asking legislators how they will assure humanitarian means are being used by Israel to keep civilians safe.  The question is the wrong one:  they should be asking Hamas how they will be doing this by releasing the hostages and surrendering.
